How often should I service my air conditioner?
Both ACCA, the governing board for HVAC in North America, and most of the manufacturers recommend checking each mode of the system a minimum of one time per year.
Does my heater / furnace need to be checked before I use it?
For safety reasons, efficiency, and proper operation heater and furnaces should definitely be checked prior to seasonal usage.
How often should I change my air filter?
Every application is different. Air filters should be changed as often as necessary to help with indoor air quality, system performance, operational costs, and overall health of the equipment and home. Never assume a filter will last exactly what it says on the side of the filter. Arizona is the exception, not the rule of thumb on this.
What type of air filter should I use?
Every application is different. Most duct systems are improperly sized, but every application should have the best filter for air quality it can without suffocating the system. Having a technician out to take measurements of the duct work is step one. He/she can make recommendations based on what we can learn about the system/duct work.
What temperature should I set my thermostat at?
Wherever you are comfortable, but within the balance of operational cost vs. budget. Keeping the system maintained will help keep those operational costs down and help the system keep you comfortable more efficiently!
What do I do if my air conditioner stops running?

If your air conditioner stops working you’ll first want to check to see if there is a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker. Next, you can check to see if the AC fan is spinning. If it’s not read our helpful guide on how to fix the AC fan not spinning. You can also check if the AC filter is blocked and remove the blockage if you can.

What are advantages of a programmable thermostat?
Having a programmable thermostat allows homeowners to set the systems run times around the higher rates of the on-peak hours from the utility companies or when they are going to be away from home for several hours. This helps people save money on the operational cost of the system and will usually pay for itself over time if utilized properly.
Why is my air conditioner so loud?

Operational noise can be the result of the SEER rating of the system, but can also increase overtime if not properly maintained regularly or from normal wear based on usage. Maintenance can help quiet noisier systems. If that isn’t enough for your backyard paradise, a new inverter system with much quieter operation could be just what you need.

How long should my air conditioner last?

What Size air conditioner does my house need?
At Day & Night we don’t take chances, we always do a manual J heat load calculation to make sure that your system is perfectly sized. We perform a manual heat load calculation during the free in-home estimate.
Do you offer variable speed air conditioners?
Yes, we have many customers that are enjoying their variable speed air conditioners right now.
What A/C brands does Day & Night offer?
We currently offer Trane and Day & Night.
Does my air conditioner use R22 refrigerant?
If your system was manufactured before 2010, there is a good chance that your system may use R22 refrigerant.
Is R22 refrigerant being phased out?

Yes the production of R22 began to be scaled back in 2010 and production of new R22 will end January 1, 2020. After 2020, the servicing of systems with R-22 will rely on recycled or stockpiled quantities.

How long should a water heater last?
The average life of a water heater in Arizona is 7 – 10 years.
Why does my water heater make a popping sound?
This is common with gas water heaters. The burner located at the bottom of the tank is trying to heat the water and minerals that are built up from hard water causing the popping sound. A water heater flush and maintenance can resolve this.
What’s the benefit of having a water softener?
Water softeners have many benefits, they can make clothes feel softer, you can get more life out of your appliances (dishwasher & washing machine) and use less detergents.

How often do I need to replace my RO filters?
Manufactures recommend replacing the filters once a year.
Should I shut my water down to my home if I leave for a long period of time?
Installing a well-placed vacation valve will reduce the risk of an unexpected water leak or flood when you are away.
What kind of maintenance needs to be done on my water heater?
We recommend flushing the water heater once a year and replacing the anode rod every two years. This will help extended the life of your water heater.

Does Day & Night service chillers?
No, but we do specialize in light commercial buildings.
Who is responsible for my unit maintenance/repairs/replacement, me or my land lord?
It depends, sometimes it is the land lord’s responsibility and other times it is the tenant. Check your lease or consult with your property management company for more details.
How often do I change my filters in my commercial HVAC unit?
Generally speaking, you should check your filters no less than once a month and replace as needed. If your filters are on the roof and you are unable to get to them. We do offer service agreements where we will routinely come out and inspect/change them as needed. So, you can focus on your business, not your building maintenance.
At what point should I replace my HVAC unit?
If you are faced with a major repair and your unit is in the 8-15-year range, it may be a great idea to replace the unit.
